paisaje espiritual hacia el este del santuario se encuentra la fuente sagrada de Castalia. El agua brotaba y pasaba por un desfiladero rocoso en la base de la cima de Flembuco, en la grieta formada por los barrancos gemelos (las dos Fedriadas).<\/p><p>Seg\u00fan el mito, este es el lugar donde Apolo mat\u00f3 a la serpiente pit\u00f3n. Uno de los varios manantiales que brotaban de las rocas y formaban distintas fuentes iba directamente hacia la fuente de Castalia (a su parte m\u00e1s baja). La fuente de Castalia se construy\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 600 AC aproximadamente, entre el Templo de Apolo y el antiguo gimnasio. En el primer siglo AC se construy\u00f3 la segunda fuente, situada m\u00e1s o menos 50 metros m\u00e1s cerca de la fuente de donde botaba el agua.<\/p><p>Tanto Pitia como los sacerdotes y los trabajadores en el templo utilizaban el agua de la fuente para lavarse y para purificarse.
