The path leading from the entrance of the sanctuary to the altar of the Chians and finally to the Temple of Apollo, is called the Sacred Way. The visitors using the path were guided thru a series of monuments and treasures that had been placed there by various city states reflecting the universal nature of the sanctuary. Now the path is left with no monuments but only several of their bases exist.

The visitors, who came to consult the oracle, had to walk its 200 metres to firstly sacrifice an animal on the altar, secondly to queue up (depending from where they came from because citizens of some city states had priority), before they could seek its advice.
